Condoms & Modern Day Women

Once I starting talking to people about Impromptu and the tampon subscription service I was amazed at how many women mentioned that it would be a great idea to add condoms to the site. Condoms are now an essential item for modern day women but even married women with children told me it was one item they were always embarrassed about buying and one item they would never buy on their own.

Personally I don’t think the obvious packaging helps matters. There’s nothing discrete or feminine about a box of durex! And if you can remember season one of Sex and The City (the TV series) we all know how obvious they can be if your handbag goes flying!

However I think it’s time us modern day women got over our embarrassment as the stats around STIs among young females are scary.

Sexual Health Week ran in Australia from September 15 to 21 and it was reported that in 2006 the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare sent out 32,500 STI notifications (which are compulsory) for young people aged in their late teens to 26 years. Chlamydia is the most prevalent within this age group and the rise in the number of chlamydia infections in young women has been described by some as a “little epidemic” .

Prevention is simple – use a condom. But these figures show that a large % of people are still having sex without condoms. As modern day women we can’t be complacent and expect the men to have the protection. It’s our body and if we want to remain healthy we need to take responsibility

If you want to make sure you’re always prepared and protected check out Vixen Condoms. Designed with women in mind they’re packaged in gorgeous, discreet tins with beautiful illustrations on them – making them the perfect handbag accessory. And of course at Impromptu we offer online purchasing all from the anonymous comfort of your home.
